It started out with pizza and snacks. Then, Santa Claus himself made a special visit, bringing huge bags of toys for each child. There was nothing but big smiles as children opened their gifts. Several students from Vernon Hills High School were there to help out.
State Representative Visits
/in Featured, News /by Leslie PiotrowskiFourth graders in the classes of Ms. Velazquez, Ms. Mejia and Ms. Brandt received quite a treat on Friday. Illinois State Representative Carol Sente stopped by to talk with students. She answered many questions about what her job was like and what motivated/inspired her to become a representative. She also asked the students a number of questions and complimented them on how knowledgable they were. For instance, students knew the answers to the questions: what is the state bird (cardinal), what is the state flower (violet), and what is the state animal (white-tailed deer). She stumped them, however, when she asked what was the state reptile. Who would have known it is a turtle.
