Inclement Weather Update

Hawthorn takes school closings very seriously. Should schools close due to inclement weather or other unforeseen reasons, the district uses an automated emergency notification system to send a recorded voice message to each student’s home telephone number, as provided during registration. Parents have the option of managing their emergency notifications by logging in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal to change telephone numbers, request text messaging, and request email messaging. For more information on how Hawthorn determines school closings, please click here.

Raising Resilient Children

Family Programming (sponsored by the PTO) invite parents to participate in a dynamic dialogue on raising resilient children from acclaimed author and speaker Kim Olver who will share with parents simple skills and strategies for helping their children successfully make it through the challenging phases of their lives. Following the keynote speaker, parents can choose between a discussion on anxiety in children or the effects of social media on children. The evening runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 at Townline School, 810 Aspen Dr. Please click here to register for this event. To learn more about the evening, please click here for details.

A New Communication Tool Designed to Hear Your Questions, Concerns, Suggestions

We are fortunate to have such a committed and involved community at Hawthorn 73.  We welcome your feedback at any time and want to ensure you that your voice matters.

That’s why we are launching Let’s Talk!, an innovative communications solution that enables parents, employees, and community members to participate in critical school and district discussions.  With Let’s Talk!, you can ask questions or submit comments whenever it is convenient for you – 24 hours a day seven days a week.

If you have something to share, click the Let’s Talk! button on the district website, www.hawthorn73.org, building website, or click here, and select the topic of your choice.  We want to hear what’s on your mind.

If you provide your contact information, you will receive a personal response.  If you prefer, you may also choose to remain anonymous.

Let’s make our district the best it can be – one conversation at a time!

Please note that Let’s Talk will not replace email, phone, or in-person communication. It is simply a supplement our district will use to ensure our parents and staff are heard.

Sincerely,
Nick Brown
Superintendent of Hawthorn Schools

AJ Holiday Party Pictures

Aprendiendo Jugando (Learning while playing) is a program at the School of Dual Language which offers homework help, a snack and activities to approximately 70 students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  We are lucky to have current teachers and middle school students to help run the program on a weekly basis. On Monday, December 14th students enjoyed their annual holiday party.  They were excited to see Santa visit and surprise them with presents, which were generously donated by Hawthorn families and local businesses.
