Several classrooms at the School of Dual Language held a special event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The first grade classes of Ms. Roznowski, Ms. Lara and Ms. Hernandez arranged FaceTime with Andrés and Christina of 123 Andrés. The children had great fun singing songs in Spanish with the award winning music duo.
Fourth grade students at Townline and the School of Dual Language were excited to try out different instruments on Friday.
Lots of enthusiastic students had their hands in the air as Ms. Hernandez, Mrs. Lara and Mrs. Roznowski taught Spanish to first grade classes this morning at the School of Dual Language.
Smiling children were everywhere as the first day of school got underway at the School of Dual Language.
Students had a great time playing outdoors last Friday during the annual Townline/School of Dual Language Field Day. Samples of teamwork and good sportsmanship were everywhere as children played a wide assortment of relay games, tug of war and other fun games.
Families enjoyed strolling around the wide assortment of booths and tables that comprised La Kermés, the School of Dual Language’s annual Latin American Carnival, last Friday. Volunteers provided samples of delicious snacks, main dishes and desserts from many Latin American countries, including Columbia, Mexico and Puerto Rico, including empanadas, bunuelos, and chicharrones. Children played all sorts of games from bowling to basketball. Families had a chance to win a variety of children’s games through a raffle. Children enjoyed the face-painting and temporary tattoos. Overall, the event provided a wonderful taste of the world and culture south of the border.
Third grade students at the School Of Dual Language got an opportunity to review many of the different activities they learned in gym over the year at today’s PE Year in Review. There were smiles everywhere as students climbed ropes, swang on ropes, bowled, jumped rope and played box hockey, volleyball, basketball and so much more all in one gym period.
Students in Ms. Brandt’s fourth-grade class read a play in Spanish to students in Ms. Roznowski’s first grade class. The students did a great job.
This spring, the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) will replace the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test as the federally required assessment administered to all third through eighth grade students. At a School of Dual Language assembly for third through fifth grade students, staff reviewed instructions, tips and techniques to help students take the test, including breathing techniques. At the end of the assembly, students engaged in a fun relay race that was organized in such a way to help them remember the tips they had just learned.
The School of Dual Language was chosen by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) to participate in the Healthy Smiles Healthy Growth Assessment for 2018-2019. This project provides free dental screenings and height/weight measurement for students. The purpose of the assessment survey is to learn about children’s oral health and growth patterns across the state of Illinois.
