Library Announces Summer Reading Program Winners

Townline Elementary and the School of Dual Language students shared the honor of winning the Cook Library District’s Super-Summer Reading Trophy. These schools won the trophy for having the highest percentage of their students sign up for the library’s summer reading program. Schools in the Hawthorn School District compete for the trophy. Last year’s winner was Elementary North. The two previous years, the trophy was won by Elementary South. These students are to be congratulated for their remarkable participation in the library district’s summer reading program. District-wide over 5000 people signed up for the summer reading program.

School of Dual Language Is Among Winners of Attendance Competition

The School of Dual Language and Elementary South were among winners of an annual attendance competition held by the Regional Office of Education. Schools throughout Lake County submitted their attendance rates for the week of Sept. 9 – 13. Elementary South and the School of Dual Language and other winning schools were recognized at an awards ceremony at the College of Lake County in late September.

Several classrooms at the School of Dual Language held a special event in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The first grade classes of Ms. Roznowski, Ms. Lara and Ms. Hernandez arranged FaceTime with Andrés and Christina of 123 Andrés. The children had great fun singing songs in Spanish with the award winning music duo.

Students Get Acquainted with Their New Teachers/Classrooms

Elementary schools welcomed parents and students attending annual “Get Acquainted” events. In addition to the School of Dual Language, these events are taking place today at Elementary South, Elementary North, Townline and Aspen. Families met teachers and dropped off school supplies. Field Day is a Blast

Students had a great time playing outdoors last Friday during the annual Townline/School of Dual Language Field Day. Samples of teamwork and good sportsmanship were everywhere as children played a wide assortment of relay games, tug of war and other fun games.

La Kermés is a Big Hit

Families enjoyed strolling around the wide assortment of booths and tables that comprised La Kermés, the School of Dual Language’s annual Latin American Carnival, last Friday. Volunteers provided samples of delicious snacks, main dishes and desserts from many Latin American countries, including Columbia, Mexico and Puerto Rico, including empanadas, bunuelos, and chicharrones. Children played all sorts of games from bowling to basketball. Families had a chance to win a variety of children’s games through a raffle. Children enjoyed the face-painting and temporary tattoos. Overall, the event provided a wonderful taste of the world and culture south of the border.

The PE Year in Review

Third grade students at the School Of Dual Language got an opportunity to review many of the different activities they learned in gym over the year at today’s PE Year in Review. There were smiles everywhere as students climbed ropes, swang on ropes, bowled, jumped rope and played box hockey, volleyball, basketball and so much more all in one gym period.
